چکیده

Background Global myocardial edema, a surrogate measure of myocardial inflammation, has been reported in patients with chronic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) based on T2weighted STIR imaging. However, STIR imaging is prone to motion artefact and issues related to cardiac cycle timing and coil sensitivity. We hypothesised that a novel quantitative CMR T2 mapping technique would provide a reliable and reproducible measure for the detection of myocardial edema in chronic non-ischemic DCM.

Non-contrast T1-mapping detects acute myocardial edema with high diagnostic accuracy: a comparison to T2-weighted cardiovascular magnetic resonance

BACKGROUND T2w-CMR is used widely to assess myocardial edema. Quantitative T1-mapping is also sensitive to changes in free water content. We hypothesized that T1-mapping would have a higher diagnostic performance in detecting acute edema than dark-blood and bright-blood T2w-CMR. METHODS We investigated 21 controls (55 ± 13 years) and 21 patients (61 ± 10 years) with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy o...

Evaluation of tissue doppler echocardiography and T2* magnetic resonance imaging in iron load of patients with thalassemia major

Background: Iron-mediated cardiomyopathy is the main complication of thalassemia major (TM) patients. Therefore, there is an important clinical need in the early diagnosis and risk stratification of patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of tissue doppler imaging (TDI) to study cardiac iron overload in patients with TM using T2* magnetic resonance (MR) as the gold-standard...

T1-mapping accurately detects acute myocardial edema: a comparison to T2-weighted cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging

Background T2-weighted cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is commonly used to detect myocardial edema. T1-mapping is also sensitive to changes in free water content and is quantitative, obviating the need for a presumed normal reference region to detect changes within affected myocardium. We hypothesized that T1-mapping using the novel sequence Shortened Modified Look-Locker Inversion Reco...

How Should We Diagnose Myocarditis, and Is its Recognition Really Clinically Relevant?

A lthough the clinical spectrum of acute myocarditis varies from cardiogenic shock to asymptomatic electrocardiographic abnormalities during community viral outbreaks, its 3 most common clinical presentations are chest pain mimicking acute myocardial infarction, ventricular arrhythmias, and heart failure due to new-onset dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) (1,2). Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imagi...

Myocardial inflammation on cardiovascular magnetic resonance predicts left ventricular function recovery in children with recent dilated cardiomyopathy.

AIMS To analyse the predictive role of myocardial inflammation assessed by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) on the outcome of recently diagnosed dilated cardiomyopathy in children. METHODS AND RESULTS Over a period of 4 years, 66 children underwent CMR within 2 weeks after the diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy. CMR sequences sensitive for oedema, hyperaemia, and irreversible injury were app...
